Marvin Rotrand, MUNICIPAL COUNCILOR, CITY OF MONTRÉAL

Marvin Rotrand is the dean of the Montreal municipal council. Vice-Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Société de transport de Montréal, he is actively working to improve the STM's customer service, contributing to the STM's award for the best transportation company in North America Awarded by the American Public Transport Association.

At City Council, he championed better service and expansion of the bus system as well as offering affordable rates. He is responsible for the Healthy Lifestyle Policy adopted by the Côte-des-Neiges-Notre-Dame-de-Grâce borough council. He publicly took a stand to ask the Quebec government to legislate so that nutritional information can be easily accessed through fast food chains.

Councilor Rotrand is also active in matters relating to democracy and the promotion of diversity.

Engaged in her community since her teenage years, Elsie was elected for the first time in 2004, at the age of 25, as the MP for Laurier-Dorion for the Parti Québécois. She is the youngest woman to have sat in the National Assembly of Quebec. She makes environmental, family, education and immigrant integration issues a priority.

She made the leap in municipal politics in 2009 and is elected as councilor of Villeray. She then became vice-president of the council, a first for a woman, then became leader of the official opposition. In 2013, she joined the City's Executive Committee as an Associate Transport Advisor, working on sustainable mobility and the transportation electrification strategy.

Under his leadership, the Commission on Water, Environment, Sustainable Development and Large Parks tabled bold recommendations to ban plastic bags and clean air.

Since the beginning of her political commitment, Elsie Lefebvre has made the conciliation of family and work a central issue in her mandate. She is the mother of two children, she wishes to inspire the young parents to choose Montreal as the ideal city to see their family grow.
